Is endogamy is a threat to the Knanaya community.?

Fellow Knanayites,

Get facts straight before concluding that Endogamy is a threat to the Knanaya community.

Does anyone have any proof to say that the Knanya community faces more health issues than any other community? Are there significantly more number of sick people in our community than what is prevalent in the country or the world.

Till we get any proof that endogamy is causing problems, we should desist from proposing solutions.

When I read the various posts that are coming up on this forum, one thing is very clear people love the "Knanaya identity". There might be multitudes of problems within the community but I still can see that the community members and ex-community members have a pride in being a "Knanayite".

This being said, let start thinking positive ... I am seeing too many negative and emails targeted at individuals on this forum and "This behaviour" is definitely not good for the health of the community.

Lets be proud about the fact that we have a community that is closely knit and let us work on deriving some benefits out of this close knit community rather than spend time in unnecessary gossips.

Social Networking is the in thing in the world now. We have lot of avenues for that - orkut, facebook etc etc...

But do we folks realize that our network, the network we have access to through our church and community is probably one of the oldest and the most reliable networks that we can potentially be in. The sad fact though is that not only dont we use this but infact we abuse it.

Lets start discussing more positive things on this forum - it could be new ideas for rejuvnating our community, it could be jobs or it could be some fun...

Cheers

Priji Thomas

Knanaya Community is a very distinct ethnic and religious group whose ancestry traces back to Abraham. Knanaya Christians, a hybrid people of Indian and Jewish descent, carved a unique niche for themselves in India. They developed a style of life that was borrowed from both their jewish and Indian progenitors but jelled into something that was essentially their own. Knananites continue to be an endogamous community.
